What are the best 3d glasses to use for 3d movies?

Jorge M asked:

I just watched My Bloody Valentine 3d with the typical green and red 3d glasses. It didn’t look so good ( which I expected) and I wanted to know if there are any better 3d glasses to use for these movies so that you can enjoy them. I went to imax and the 3d movie there looked nicer, I am not sure if it was the 3d glasses or just the over all quality of the movie and the glasses put together. Thanks!

The problem is how different formats of 3d work and what equipment can and can not use those different formats. In the theaters they use polarized 3d. Everything has double images and one image is meant for the right eye and the other image is meant for the left eye. So the one image has one light wave and the other a different light wave, and the lens blocks the one light wave so the image can’t get to your eye but the other one can.

Now when they made all those televisions and monitors they didn’t make it to were all the pixels could put out 2 different light waves, they only put out just one. So polarized glasses won’t work. So then for dvd’s and online you have to resort to the red and blue kind of combination because that 3d uses color to block and unblock images, so all you need is a color television.

Now shutter glasses 3d format looks just like polarized and I have been to a Imax that used this for their 3d movies, and in the mid 1990’s I had a field sequiencial 3d system for the old tube televisions that use shutter glasses, and this is the only other format that I have seen done for television. The new 3d pc game system Nvidia uses this format. These glasses must have a power supply and each lens opens while the other one closes. They do this back and forth really fast at the same time that the image for that eye flashes on the screen. For Nvidia you must have a 3d monitor that can handle those very fast flashing images on the screen, its refresh rate must be faster than monitors currently made, because for 3d it has to do twice the work of a 2d video.
